Police in the Mount Road policing cluster in Port Elizabeth made scores of arrests at the weekend.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu reports that 152 suspects were arrested from the seven stations within the cluster for charges relating from illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, to housebreaking, attempted murder and possession of drugs.
Naidu said the large number of arrests was an indication to the community and a warning to criminals that police are committed in winning the war against crime.
Police officials in Uitenhage also arrested more than 165 suspects during crime prevention operation this past weekend.
Arrests made varied from robbery,driving under the influence and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Meanwhile two child rapists were sentenced to life imprisonment in the Bizana Regional Court in Transkei on Friday.
22 year old Sifiso Chutshela and 43 year old Mandlenkosi Dlungele were convicted of raping nine-year old girls from their neighbourhoods.
