DA kick-starts voter registration campaign in NMBM

DA mayoral candidate for Nelson Mandela Bay, Athol Trollip, launched his party's election registration campaign on Monday.

To kick-off the campaign Trollip said unveiled the first registration poster at the Five Ways intersection near Central, Port Elizabeth.

He said with the first voter registration weekend less than a month away, the drive to communicate the importance of registering to vote was crucial.

"If you not registered you can't participate.  In local government (elections) one must register when one lives as opposed to national elections where you can vote anywhere in the province and in fact you can vote anywhere in the country," he said.

"But, at local government level you have to vote where you live so if you've moved anywhere between now and the last election (local government) you need to re-register.  It's very simple to do that.  You go to the closest voting station in the area where you live and it takes a few minutes to go in there give you details and re-register," Trollip said.

He said voter registration weekends will be the first weekend in March and the second registration drive will be the second weekend of April.

"We appeal to everyone to take note that elections are coming and that there are two registration weekends to get youreself able to vote," Trollip added.
