The Eastern Cape's festive season road death toll has climbed even further.
This, after nine people were killed in two accidents reported in the past 24 hours.
According to the Provincial Transport Department, seven people were killed when a minibus taxi from Cape Town overturned on the R-61 between Cradock and Tarkastad early on Saturday morning.
Department spokesperson Unathi Binqhose said its suspected that the minibus suffered a tyre burst.
He said seven of the 14 passengers, which included five children, were killed while the injured passengers were taken to nearby hospitals.
Meanwhile, two people were killed in an accident on the R-58 between Barkly East and Lady Grey late on Friday night.
Binqhose said that a vehicle travelling from Rustenburg in North West to Nqeleni in the Eastern Cape overturned and fell down a cliff. Two other males in the car were injured and taken to a hospital.
He said fatigue and speeding could have played a role in this crash.
