Three more people have lost their lives in fatal accidents on Eastern Cape roads.
The Eastern Cape Transport Department said two other people sustained injuries in the head-on collision on the R-61 near Mthatha on Monday night between a bakkie and a tipper truck.
Department spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said three men in the bakkie were killed, while two other people were injured.
The jaws of life had to be used to extricate the deceased from the vehicle.
Binqose said the truck driver was unharmed.
The latest crash comes on the heels of a weekend crash, which claimed eight lives after two mini-buses collided head-on also near Mthatha.
The Eastern Cape Transport Department said the circumstances surrounding these accidents are under investigation and cases of culpable homicide have been registered with the SAPS.
