Three black rhino were relocated from the Eastern Cape to a private game reserve in an un-named province on Thursday.
The relocation forms part of a joint programme by the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency, SA National Parks and some private reserve owners to protect the animals against the scourge of poaching.
The programme is reportedly the biggest sale of black rhino from a single reserve to a private reserve.
The animals were airlifted in a military-style covert operation early yesterday by helicopter and should be at their new destinations by Friday morning.
As many as 15 rhino will be relocated as part of the programme.
