Thousands of student nurses are expected to take part in a march to the office of Eastern Cape premier, Noxolo Kiviet, on Friday.
The march is being organised by the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa's learner movement.
Spokesperson, Tando Sonwabo, says after the march they will have a meeting with Health MEC, Sicelo Gqobana, to try and resolve their grievances.
"We are marching to the premier's office to voice out discontent regarding the funding model that is running currently in our province. We are on the bursary system and previously we were on the persal system," she said.
"The bursary system is completely not working," added Sonwabo.
She said they want to show the Bhisho government that the current system is not working and its disvantaging everyone coming from poor backgrounds.
