Eastern Cape Premier, Lubabalo Mabuyane, says the province is ready to roll-out the Safety Plan following Monday's night's announcements by President Cyril Ramaphosa of further restrictions for the province.
He said the Provincial government welcomed the decisions taken by the National Government including the closure of all provincial beaches and public open spaces from Wednesday.
"The main objective of our integrated Festive Season Plan is to save people's lives, protect them from infections, road accidents, crime, violence and from any form of accident," Mabuyane declared.
He said this would be accomplished through "risk-adjusted regulation enforcement for beaches and public gatherings" and "accelerated clinical and health care measures."
"Our municipalities are ready to close all our beaches and our open recreational parks tomorrow in the
province. We encourage the people of our province to comply with these restrictions, to respect municipalities and law enforcement agencies because they are enforcing these regulations to save lives," he said.
Meanwhile, Mabuyane said on Tuesday, Transport, Safety and Liaison MEC, Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe handed over 116 vehicles to both Traffic and Police Officers for the Festive Season patrols.
"We continue with testing, screening, tracking and tracing to better identify people infected by the virus so that we can support them to recover. Our health infrastructure upgrades at our hospitals are ongoing and we keep on getting additional hospital beds from this infrastructure investment. About 52 of these projects have been completed and they gave us 1470 hospital beds," the Premier added.
Turning to tourism, Premier Mabuyane said the sector was not closed.
"Much as we are closing our beaches, the hotels, BnBs and parks with access control in our province remain open for our residents and tourists. Guests visiting our province are welcome to the Eastern Cape province. They must enjoy our province," he said.
