The Eastern Cape Health Department says it reached an important milestone after vaccinating 1-million of the province's population against Covid-19.
It says by Thursday last week, a total of 1 002 813 people had been fully vaccinated.
The Department said people of 60-year and older accounted for 62% of those that had been vaccinated.
It says the milestone contributes towards attaining herd immunity in the province by inoculating 4.5 million people by the end of March next year.
Of the vaccinated population, about 43-thousand healthcare workers have received their jabs.
The Department says the province currently has more than 8-thousand active Covid-19 cases, with more than 14-thousand deaths due to the virus since March 2020.
