Eastern Cape police are turning up the heat on gangsterism in the city's northern areas of Nelson Mandela Bay.
Provincial Commissioner Liziwe Ntshinga said police were intensifying operations on Tuesday to quell violence and restore peace in the gang-ridden areas.
Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane was also in town where he was briefed by senior police management on the overall picture of gangsterism in the area as well as the initiatives currently underway to curb the violence.
The Premier also went to inspect the multimillion-rand 10111 centre that has cameras and monitoring controls that could be used to fight crime in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.
He also stopped at a vehicle checkpoint in Windvogel where he briefly interacted with motorists, before making his way visit the Arcadia Secondary school.
Khoi-San Chief and activist, Crawford Fraser says in today’s engagements, they want the Premier to address the skyrocketing levels of youth unemployment in the areas which often leads to gangsterism #AlgoaFMNews pic.twitter.com/P3I6y1r8dR
