Eastern Cape premier, Lubabalo Mabuyane has called on local and traditional leaders, as well as the community of Ngcobo, to work with the South African Police Service to fight crime in the area as a matter of urgency.
Mabuyane was speaking during a visit to the town on Saturday.
The premier was accompanied by Transport, Community Safety and Liaison MEC, Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe as well as provincial police leadership.
They visited the household where family members were killed when one of their huts was torched, killing some of the people inside.
A person who witnessed this crime was killed by criminals.
Mabuyane also received a letter from a group of women who raised concerns about crime in their community.
He called the meeting to find solutions following a number of violent crimes in the area, including murder and rape, as well as livestock theft.
