Eastern Cape Premier, Lubabalo Mabuyane, will undergo a second Covid19 test after a core-staff member tested positive for the virus.
In a statement on Saturday, the Premier’s office said Mabuyane will be in “quarantine” at his home until he receives his test results.
His staff member is also said to be self-isolating at home.
“Premier Mabuyane will continue to actively lead the Eastern Cape Provincial Government, the implementation of the province’s Covid19 containment and mitigation strategy from his home,” the statement said.
He will interact with the Members of the Executive Council online and will continue to chair the meetings of the Provincial Coronavirus Command Council virtually.
The Premier’s extensive engagement plans for the week, including his weekly media briefing and overseeing the opening of schools on Monday, have been cancelled.
