An Eastern Cape doctor has appeared in court for allegedly issuing a medical certificate to an undercover police agent, her third brush with the law.
The National Prosecuting Authority said 67-year-old, Dr Sipokazi Sokupa, appeared in the East London Regional Court on Friday.
NPA spokesperson, Anelisa Ngcakani, said the matter was postponed to Monday for a bail application.
There are also two other cases pending against the doctor.
Ngcakani said Dr Sokupa faces two further counts of fraud for allegedly issuing medical certificates to undercover police agents “without examining” them.
She was also arrested and charged during the lockdown for allegedly issuing fraudulent medical certificates to taxi drivers to transport passengers in apparent violation of lockdown regulations.
“She faces three counts of fraud and the contravention of lockdown regulations,” Ngcakani said.
