EC police urge victims of GBV to act and not to protect abusers

File

Eastern Cape police are urging victims of gender-based violence to seek help before it's too late and to walk away from tumultuous relationships.

The appeal came after a 38-year-old man was fatally stabbed while embroiled in a physical altercation with his pregnant girlfriend.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu says Loyiso Kulela was arguing with his 25-year old fiancé at a house in Timothy Valley about food on Saturday.

She says the argument intensified and Kulela sustained a stab wound to the shoulder and subsequently bled to death.

The fiancé, who is about four months pregnant, was taken to hospital for medical care.

Colonel Naidu says she was not arrested and a murder case is under investigation.

Meanwhile, a 36-year-old man has been arrested following the murder of his girlfriend in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape.

Police say according to the neighbor, the couple often fought with each other and on Friday night they had another argument.

When she went to check on them on Saturday morning, she found the lifeless 35-year old girlfriend with several stab wounds.

She alerted the police and the community later found the suspect and severely assaulted him.

He is currently in hospital under police guard.

A case of murder is under investigation and the suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
