A Port Elizabeth police officer from the Kwazakhele visible policing unit has died in the line of duty.
Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Sibongile Soci, says two police officers were patrolling the Kwazakele area on Wednesday and stopped a car that was driving recklessly in Njoli road.
Soci says while the members were questioning the driver two suspects, one of whom was armed, appeared from a footpath.
Thirty-year old Constable Simthembile Thandan was shot in the upper body and died on the scene.
A 38-year old suspect was arrested and is under police guard in hospital. The other suspect is still at large.
Meanwhile, another police officer, Sergeant Wanda Mogale stationed at Jamestown SAPS was off duty when he was stabbed by his girlfriend .
Fifty-nine year old Mogale was killed at his home in Jamestown Township on Wednesday.
A 42-year old suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear in court on Thursday.
