The South African Police have released the names of the four Eastern Cape members who were killed in a gruesome accident outside Ngcobo on Sunday.
They died when a police vehicle collided head-on with a tipper truck while returning from the Chris Hani District where they conducted crime prevention operations and awareness campaigns with communities and schools.
Authorities said two people in the truck were injured and a civilian killed.
National police spokesperson, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo, identified the deceased police members as 34-year-old Constable Buqaqawuli Nyembezi and 35-year-old Constable Frank Lila of the Mount Ayliff police.
The other two SAPS members who perished in the crash were 28-year-old Constable Lungelo Nogqala who was attached to the Sulenkama Community Service Centre, and 31-year-old Ntombikayise Landu, who was a secretary to the Commander of the Alfred Nzo District.
Police did not release the identity of the civilian.
Kwazulu Natal police are also mourning the loss of two of their members who were hit by a vehicle while they were investigating an accident scene.
They were identified as the 36-year-old Sergeant Alfred Gqumani and 34-year-old Constable Sifiso Ngcobo of the Harding police.
