Police in Centane in the Eastern Cape have arrested two suspects for armed robbery and attempted murder.
Police say a cash-in-transit vehicle arrived at a supermarket in the town on Friday to collect cash when the guard was threatened by two suspects with a firearm.
Hawks Captain, Yolisa Mgolodela says he was robbed of cash as well as his service firearm.
She says the security guard reported the matter, and while police approached the scene, a shootout ensued during which two suspects and a passer-by were wounded.
All three were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The security guard's firearm, the undisclosed amount of money, and the two firearms belonging to the suspects were recovered.
The two suspects are under police guard in hospital and will appear in court as soon as they are discharged.
