A 44-year old man has been released on bail of R20 000 in the East London Magistrates’ Court, following his appearance on allegations of tax fraud.
Hawks spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela says Mlingani Mlanga, the director of Mlanga McDonald Incorporated, submitted VAT returns through e-filing, claiming input tax refunds that were not due to the company.
She says the SA Revenue Service discovered claims of more than R4-million, and the matter was reported in 2018.
Mlanga was arrested on Tuesday and appeared in court on the same day when he was released on bail.
The matter was postponed to 16 April for copies of the dockets to be handed to his defense team.
