The former secretary at Dewald Viljoen Attorneys, 55-year-old Bernice Viljoen has been sentenced to two years of correctional supervision, including house arrest and community service, in the Commercial Crimes Court in Gqeberha on charges of theft.
Hawks spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela says between July 2009 and October 2011, Viljoen who is the ex-wife to Attorney Dewald Viljoen was employed as the firm's bookkeeper in Kariega.
She says various deposits related to Road Accident Fund claims, property sales, and debt collections of more than R500 000 were made into the trust account.
The monies were never distributed to the rightful beneficiaries.
In February 2012, various complaints were lodged by the victims, which led to the arrest of Bernice and Dewald Viljoen in March 2016.
Bernice Viljoen was also sentenced to a further four years imprisonment, suspended for three years, on Friday.
Captain Mgolodela says Dewald Viljoen is currently tried on the same charges.
