Lifestyle audits will be conducted on top Eastern Cape government officials as part of efforts to root out corruption in the provincial administration.
Announcing this during his regular weekly briefings on Tuesday, Premier Lubabalo Mabuyane, said that initially, he and his MEC's will be under scrutiny.
Other officials who will be audited include Directors-General, Deputy Directors-General, Chief Financial Officers and all chief directors or any senior person in the supply chain management units in the provincial administration."
Mabuyane says, in the long run, this will also include lifestyle audits of Municipal officials.
Meanwhile, the move by the Bhisho government follows allegations in the public domain of corruption in the procurement of goods and services to fight Covid19.
Over the weekend, Mabuyane announced that the Bhisho Government has published details of all Covid19 procurement on the website of the Provincial Treasury since the national state of disaster was declared.
The Eastern Cape has been dogged by claims of irregularities linked to alleged irregularities in Covid19 procurement.
Premier Mabuyane said from now onwards, Bhisho aims to regularly publish details of transactions that the provincial government makes with private sector companies.
He says this will allow the public to follow every rand and cent of the public resources being spent.
