EC nurse and security guard assaulted and locked up in 48 hour ordeal

A security guard and a nurse from the Sigodlo Clinic in Amathole were assaulted during a robbery on Friday, locked inside a dispensary and only released on Sunday morning.

A spokesperson for the Eastern Cape Department of Health Sizwe Kupelo says unknown armed men assaulted the duo before stealing computers, a photocopy machine, infant formula, groceries, TV sets, phones and a gas cylinder.

He says the criminals tied the victims up inside the dispensary before locking the door with handcuffs.

Kupelo says they were only discovered at 6 am on Sunday when a security guard showed up for his shift.

The Health MEC Nkosazana Meth condemned the attack and called on SAPS to leave no stone unturned to find the thugs and bring them to book.

She also expressed her serious concern about unwarranted attacks that are affecting service delivery.

This is the latest attack on facilities in the Province after electrical cables were stolen from the Dora Nginza Hospital in Gqeberha forcing staff to operate on generators for five days.

The fence at Mabandla Clinic in Kariega was also recently stolen.
