Item advertised on social media, stolen and resprayed

A 30-year-old man is expected to appear in court on Monday after he allegedly stole a trailer in Gqeberha that was advertised on social media.

Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the complainant had the trailer specifically made, and it was, therefore, easy to identify.

She says it was stolen on Thursday in Knoll Street in Lorraine and later found in Nassau Avenue in Theescombe, already resprayed.

The suspect was arrested and will be charged with possession of suspected stolen property.

The trailer has since been impounded for further investigation.

According to reports the trailer was put on Facebook marketplace shortly after it was repainted.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, police members from Chatty received information of a housebreaking in progress at the Booysens Park Community Hall.

Captain Janse van Rensburg says when the members arrived on the scene they were told that the suspects were hiding in the roof.

She says two suspects were caught in possession of electrical wires that were removed from the building.

They will be facing several charges including housebreaking theft and damage to essential infrastructure related to the Criminal Matters Amendment Act.
