Progress made in AKA murder investigation, says SAPS

Today marks one year since South African rapper Kiernan Forbes also known as AKA, was shot dead on Florida Road in Durban.

Forbes was gunned down in an apparent assassination as he left a restaurant with friends.

His close friend, Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane, was also caught in the crossfire.

National police have meanwhile confirmed that progress has been made in identifying suspects behind the killings.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe assured the affected families that they have spent countless hours and endless manpower on solving the case.

According to Mathe, police have a dedicated team of specialists, seasoned detectives, analysts, and technicians working closely with the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in Kwazulu-Natal.

She said it was important to highlight that this is a prosecution-driven investigation.

"We have gathered critical evidence.

"We have made progress, we have positive evidence linking the identified suspects, and others are in custody related to other matters. Others are on the run, and the team is hot on their heels," she said.

Mathe confirmed that communication with the affected families have been limited, due to the investigation being at a "sensitive" stage.

"The limited communication was not at all intended to undermine any of the affected families .

"We will however endeavour to improve on this in the near future," she said.
