The Winnie Madikizela- Mandela Municipality in the Alfred Nzo District, has taken down two signage posts with a glaring spelling error that had social media users in stitches, at the weekend.
The signage post, which was mounted on two of the town's exit points, had the words: “Welcome to Winnie Madikizela- Mandela Local Minicipality” with the picture of the town's mayor next to it.
On Tuesday the municipal spokesperson, Thamsanqa Cwibi, says following the trends on social media, the town would like to apologise for the error.
Cwibi says the banner was to have periodic messages from the Mayor during the different holidays of the year.
“It is unfortunate that the error superseded the initial purpose,” he said.
He says the banners have been removed with immediate effect and sent back to be rectified.
Speaking to Algoa FM News Cwibi could not be pulled on the cost of rectifying the banner.

Cwibi says the banners were done by a service provider who had provided branding services on various objects which include municipal cars and signposts.
“The service provider has been instructed to remove the street banners and rectify them at no extra costs to the municipality.
