That's according to Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Richard Baloyi.
In a written reply to a parliamentary question, Minister Baloyi, said R8.5 million of the debt had been outstanding for longer than 90 says.
Baloyi said the total debt due for service fees in the Eastern Cape amounted to R134.1 million of which R21.9 million was owed by Nelson Mandela Bay and R14.8 million by Buffalo City.
He said municipalities in the Cacadu DM owed R15.7 million, those in Amathole just under R13 million and those in Chris Hani a fraction under R16 million.
Municipalities in Joe Gqabi owe R7.9 million, OR Tambo R24.1 million and Alfred Nzo R20.5 million.
