Approximately R13.4 billion will be needed to eliminate the housing backlog of more than 72 400 in Nelson Mandela Bay and meet fully integrated human settlements standards.
Metrominute reports that the Built Environment Performance Plan says that of the total number, 49 000 will be for households currently occupying backyard shacks and 23 411 living in informal settlements.
According to the plan, of the 56 informal settlements in the Metro that will be upgraded in situ, 30 still have to be upgraded, while 11 of the 16 Greenfield sites still need to be developed.
The Built Environment Performance Plan is expected to be presented to Council on Tuesday.
