The Blue Crane Route Municipality has applied to the National Energy Regulator to increase its electricity tariff above the national guideline of seven percent.
Metrominute reports that the municipality wants to impose an increase of 8.3% from July 1st for the 2013/14 financial year.
The Blue Crane Route Municipality is not the only Eastern Cape local authority to ask for an above average increase.
Buffalo City has requested an increase of 10% to fund capital projects and Baviaans 16% to offset previous years of increases that were below Nersa guidelines.
The Energy Regulator will hold public hearings on the applications in Pretoria on Friday.
