Eastern Cape police arrested ten people in the Port St Johns area following an apparent mob justice attack that left a mother and son dead.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, said the tragic incident took place in Mbabalane Locality on Friday night.
He said according to information, the “incident was sparked” by a 29-year-old man who was beaten to death after stabbing a patron at a tavern.
Kinana said the man’s 57-year-old mother was “allegedly shot and killed at the scene,” when she tried to intervene.
The ten suspects are due to appear in court next week on two charges of murder.
Meanwhile, Kinana said that this incident was the second, recent mob justice killing reported after two men were set alight in Bityi last weekend.
Four people were arrested and will make their second court appearance next week on charges of murder.
