An Eastern Cape mother is due to appear in court next week for allegedly feeding poisoned porridge to her 28-year-old ‘drug addict” son who shared the meal with two of his friends.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moitheri Bojabotseha, said the 63-year-old woman was arrested on Friday.
“It was reported on the 10 December 2019 that the three men aged 19, 25 and 28 shared some porridge in a shack and became very sick during the evening,” he said.
Bojabotseha said that after a “thorough investigation” the woman “confessed to the SAPS that she was the one who had given her own son food mixed with poison to eat.”
“She did not anticipate that he would share it with his friends,” he added.
He said the woman told police that her son was a drug addict who had allegedly abused her for many years and that “she could not handle the abuse anymore”.
Bojabotseha said the woman will appear in court on Tuesday in Aliwal North facing three charges of murder.
