An Eastern Cape man is on the run after assaulting his wife and setting his homestead alight.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, says Dutywa police are investigating a case of assault and arson following Friday night’s incident.
“It is alleged that the husband (suspect) whose age is not yet known set alight his house. The suspect who is not yet arrested implicated his wife aged 38 of having an affair with another man at Jama Location, Qora Village, Dutywa,” Manatha said.
“He is alleged to have assaulted his wife with fists. The wife took on her heels and reported the assault to the headman. While the wife was at the homestead of the headman, she saw flames at her homestead,” he said.
Manatha said it “suspected that the husband sat alight the their home. The damage is estimated to be R20 000.”
