The Butterworth Regional Magistrate’s Court has jailed a 28-year- old man for raping a 12-year-old boy.
Yandisa Jonas was sentenced on Thursday to 19 years imprisonment.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, said that Jonas attacked the youth in November 2017 at Eziteneni Informal Settlement near Bika Township, Butterworth.
“The accused person came across the victim and dragged him to his shack where he raped the 12-year-old boy,” he said.
Eastern Cape Police Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga has welcomed the conviction and sentence.
Manatha said General Ntshinga appealed to women and children irrespective of their gender “to break the silence” when it comes to abuse.
