Eastern Cape police arrested a 29-year-old man for being in possession of suspected stolen goods worth an estimated R1m.
Police spokesperson, Captain Dineo Koena, said the man was arrested in Bityi on Friday in an intelligence-driven operation conducted by members of the National Intervention Unit, Crime Intelligence and Tactical Response Team.
She said the goods were stolen from a truck that had been hijacked by five men on the N2 in the early hours of Friday morning.
“The members followed up on positive information after an RTT delivery truck was hijacked and robbed by five armed men at Mgqumo on the N2. It was later found abandoned near Maqhingeni on the N2," said Koena.
"The driver and his two security guards were robbed of two pistols and some stock which was to be delivered to shops around Mthatha CBD," she said.
Captain Koena said that the stolen goods included four bakkie doors, a new photocopier machine, shoes and computer equipment.
“The estimated value of all the items is R1m,” she said.
Koena said the suspect will appear in court soon.
