An Eastern Cape man has been arrested for murdering his wife.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Mthembu, said that the 28-year-old man was arrested by Dutywa police in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
He said the murder occurred “after 24:00 midnight at Mpuku Location, Chizela Village, Dutywa.”
“The deceased suffered multiple upper body injuries. The motive for the murder is not clear at this point in time,” Captain Manatha said.
Describing the killing as “senseless”, Manatha said that “it must be emphasized that the safety of women and children is a top priority of for the Eastern Cape police.”
Eastern Cape Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Liziwe Ntshinga, the non-stop investigation of such cases is in line with their Back to Basics policing approach.
“Violence committed against women and children is in the forefront of our fight against crime and offenders can expect that our investigators will pursue every avenue to ensure their conviction,” General Ntshinga said.
Manatha said that deceased cannot be identified until her next are informed.
“The suspect will appear before the Dutywa Magistrate Court on Friday 04 August 2017,” he said.
