A man from Aliwal North who had a single bullet stored in a safe was arrested and charged on Thursday for the unlawful possession of live ammunition.
Spokesperson Warrant Officer Moitheri Bojabotseha says police members received information from someone who claimed to have spotted live ammo in a flat behind a pub in Somerset Street. The person also expressed a concern that drugs might be sold from the property.
He says police questioned the man who admitted to having a single bullet which was stored inside a matchbox in a safety box.
He told police that he was going to use the bullet as a pendant to make a necklace.
Bojabotseha says this is in contravention of the Firearm Control Act 60 of 2000, which stipulates that no person may possess any ammunition without a permit.
No drugs were found on the premises.
The man will appear in court soon.
