The Eastern Cape Liquor Board said it was deeply concerned with reports of non-compliance with Covid19 regulations by some liquor outlets in the province.
The Board said in a statement on Monday today that it condemned those traders who "wittingly or unwittingly" flout their trading conditions and Covid 19 health protocols.
CEO, Dr Nombuyiselo Makala says it’s extremely concerning that people have become so complacent and are behaving as if Covid 19 does not exist at all.
She said these transgressions include not wearing face masks and not practising social distancing at over-crowded venues.
Dr Makala said various liquor outlets allow their premises to be over-crowded which she said invariably undermines social distancing.
“The prevention of the spread of Covid19 is a responsibility of everyone, including patrons. It cannot be left only to the discretion of liquor traders,” she said.
Dr Makala said they were urging community members to report any cases of non-compliance to their nearest police station or the ECLB toll-free complaints line 0800 000 420 or Watsapp 076 403 6223.
