The 32-year-old man accused of hacking six family members to death has abandoned his bid for bail.
Zimbabwean national, Nowa Makula appeared in an Eastern Cape court on Monday on six counts of murder and one count of violating the Immigration's Act.
The National Prosecuting Authority said that the case against Makula was postponed to 28 January for further investigation.
He was arrested in Ginsberg at King Williams Town last week following the brutal murder of 42-year-old Nomzamo Mhlanti and her children, Zakhiwe, Yibanati, Wineka, Thoko and six-month old Luphumlo last Tuesday.
They were allegedly killed with an axe which was found at the scene of the murder.
On Sunday, Police Minister Bheki Cele, joined mourners at the funeral service of the slain family at Dabekweni Locality, in Kwaaimani in the Elliotdale area of the Eastern Cape.
He said this "heinous crime has shocked the country as South Africa marks 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children."
