Two people were killed and twelve injured when a Toyota Quantum minibus taxi carrying school pupils crashed near Mbewuleni village, Dutywa.
Police Spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha says the accident happened at about 9 pm on Friday night on the R408 between Ngcobo and Willowvale.
The 27-year-old taxi driver and a 17-year-old female passenger died on the scene.
Manatha says it is not sure what caused the accident as no other vehicles were involved.
Twelve pupils were injured and taken to a nearby hospital in Butterworth.
Dutywa police had opened a case of culpable homicide and were investigating the cause of the accident.
Names of the victims are being withheld until next of kin have been informed.
