Eastern Cape Transport MEC, Tandiswa Marawu, will present a fleet of new vehicles to provincial traffic officers on Friday.
This will form part of the launch of the province's Arrive Alive campaign for the Easter weekend and will take place in Mthatha.
The Estern Cape Transport Ministry says MEC Marawu will hand over 30 vehicles to provincial traffic officers who are involved in Operation Asihleki, which forms part of the national rolling enforcement plan.
She also says each traffic officer will be expected to stop and check a minimum of 15 vehicles per eight-hour shift as part of the campaign.
Meanwhile, traffic authorities country-wide are bracing themselves for a busy weekend as in-land schools close today.
Arrive Alive spokesperson, Ashref Ishmail, says there wil be visible policing on all major routes.
"Operation clean sweep started shortly after the festive season campaign. Provincial traffic, together with metropolitan officers around the country have embarked on this campaign looking at various public, passenger and freight transport vehicles," he said.
Ishmail said traffic officers are looking at issues of "vehicle defects, driver fitness and also documentation."
