EC Health responds to viral Livingstone Hospital "drunken video"

An employee at the Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth, who was seen drinking on duty in a video that went viral over the weekend, will be facing disciplinary charges.

This is according to the spokesperson for the Eastern Cape Department of Health, Lwandile Sicwetsha.

In the video recording, the employee is seen drinking while on duty and he seems to be unable to help patients at the Livingstone's casualty department.

Sicwetsha says the incident took place on Thursday evening.

"The Department is instituting disciplinary charges against the employee.  Our labour relations unit was busy today gathering information from the witness of that unfortunate incident," he said.He also encouraged patients to report misconduct by health professionals.

"It is only then that we will be able to correct what is happening because patients also have rights and if they are not getting proper and fair treatment from our staff then they must expose that," Sicwetsha added.
