The Eastern Cape Health Crisis Coalition met in East London on Monday to discuss a way forward after the provincial health department failed to respond with a turn-around strategy for the province's health system.
In September the coalition, formed by hundreds different health sector unions, organisations and civil society marched to Bhisho to deliver a memorandum demanding the improvement of what they termed an ailing health system.
Last Friday was the deadline for the provincial health department to respond to the coalition's demands, but according to coalition organizer Kwazi Mbatha, the deadline came and went, without a word from the health department.
"On Wednesday we are going to write a letter to the Premier of the province and also to the portfolio committee giving them the memorandum we gave to the MEC. We will give them time to respond until the end of October" he said.
