A Colonel in the Hawks in the Eastern Cape has been convicted on two counts of fraud in the East London Regional Court.
Fifty-three-year-old Hayron Booysen was convicted on Friday for submitting false travel claims in the amount of R15 000.
Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson, Captain Anelisa Ngcakani, said that he was arrested in October 2014 in an investigation going back to December the previous year.
She said that Booysen had used state funds to buy return air-tickets from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town and from Cape Town to East London on the pretext that he was going to consult a handwriting expert in a case that he was investigating.
Booysen is out on bail and will be sentenced on 17 January 2020.
