Police at Centane in the Eastern Cape are hunting for the gunman who shot and killed an elderly woman this week.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, said 77-year-old Nosilence Nyaniso, was shot dead on Tuesday at Mjo Location, Feni Village, Centane.
“The male relative of the deceased heard gunshots as the deceased was sleeping in a different room alone. When he went to investigate, he found the deceased already passed on,” said Manatha.
He said the motive for the “cold-blooded murder” is not known.
Eastern Cape Provincial Police commissioner Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga condemned the murder of the defenceless woman.
Manatha said police were appealing to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect/s to contact Centane Police - 047 498 1066 or Crime Stop 08600 10111.
