EC government invests in youth

The Eastern Cape government will use the provincial youth day event on Sunday to launch the Isiqalo Youth Fund, aimed at funding start-ups and businesses owned by young people in a drive to reduce youth unemployment, poverty, grow the provincial economy and create jobs.

The Fund is Bhisho's investment into youth development, which was allocated by the national government to address challenges faced by the province's youth.

The funding of R150-million was first announced during the current financial year's budget speech and again prioritised during Friday's State of the Province Address.

At Sunday's provincial youth day event in Ngqeleni, Premier Oscar Mabuyane, who will deliver the keynote address, and Finance, Economic Development, Environment and Tourism MEC, Mlungisi Mvoko will unpack how young people will access the fund, how it will be managed by the provincial government and the criteria for funding.
