A post mortem will be conducted next week to determine the exact cause of death of a nine-year-old Jeffreys Bay girl who died after drinking a milkshake spiked with sleeping pills.
Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, confirmed that the incident happened on Thursday.
She says it's alleged that the girl's mother had a fall-out with her boyfriend when she allegedly spiked the milkshake and also took the pills herself.
Swart said when the woman realised the next morning (Fri) that her daughter had died, she tried to slit her wrists.
Captain Swart said at this stage an inquest docket has been opened but this may change depending on the outcome of the post-mortem.
