McNamara said after consultations with the police, the farming association “is satisfied that the investigation currently underway is receiving the required level of attention”.

“Agri Eastern Cape will continue to engage with the SAPS to assist wherever possible to bring the perpetrators to justice and to improve upon the Rural Safety Strategy currently in place,” he said.

Police said that Scheepers was attacked in his home by two men at “approximately 09:00 on Saturday morning”.

“It is alleged that the victim in his early sixties was attacked whilst in his home by two unknown males. He had been severely beaten,” said spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender.

She said the suspects fled in the victim’s bakkie which was later recovered. “A .38 special revolver is believed to have also been taken,” she said.

No arrests have been made.

“The South African Police Service is appealing to any person with information on this incident to kindly contact their nearest police station or the crime stop number on 086010111,” Govender said.
