Police in the Eastern Cape have rearrested two of the three prisoners who escaped on the eve of election day, from the Middeldrift Correctional Centre.
A spokesperson for Correctional Services Sivuyisiwe Matanga says several roleplayers assisted in the arrest including the K9 unit, King Williams Town flying squad and the Provincial tracing unit.
She says Sizwe Mhlana and Aziwe Nkwalase were arrested at a park in Zwelithsa and are believed to have moved between that area and Sweet Water.
Mhlana was serving 10 years for robbery while Nkwalase was serving 16 years for robbery with aggravated circumstances.
Police are still investigating whether or not the escapees were involved in any criminal activities during their escape.
Matanga says only Andisa Vas, who is serving time for attempted murder and robbery, is still on the run.
She says he is considered armed and dangerous.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape is still underway.
Mhlana and Nkwalase will appear in court on Monday.
