Police in Benoni are investigating a double murder after a man and woman, who ran out of diesel, were shot dead on the side of the road.
The incident happened at about lunchtime on the Putfontein road.
Spokesperson for ER24 Ross Campbell says when they arrived on the scene they found a 19-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds lying in the road.
His 20-year-old female passenger was found dead inside the bakkie with a single gunshot wound.
Campbell says both showed no signs of life and were declared dead on the scene.
The victims were travelling with two workers who fled the scene but later returned once emergency services arrived.
According to them, a group of men approached them after they had stopped on the side of the road.
The motive for the murders is unknown at this stage.
