One of the twelve awaiting trial suspects who escaped from police holding cells in Kwa-Baca, formerly Mount Frere, has been rearrested.
Police said Nkosikhona Ngcopheni was found at his house in Nkungwini Location on Friday morning.
He was originally awaiting trial on a charge of theft and now faces the additional charge of escaping from lawful custody.
Police said the escape early on Thursday morning was detected when members were doing routine cell rounds.
Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said earlier that 12 twelve awaiting-trial suspects escaped from the police cells through a hole in a wall on Thursday.
Naidu says the break-out was detected during routine cell checks.
She said the hunt for the eleven other escapees is continuing.
Naidu said Major-General, Zithulele Dladla has warned communities not to protect these criminals as they would be also committing an offence.
“‘We appeal to the communities to keep an alert eye out for these criminals who are dangerous and to work closely with us to ensure their speedy arrests, “he said.
