Eastern Cape Premier, Lubabalo Mabuyane, has appealed to health workers to look after the new vehicles that will be distributed to health facilities across the province.
The Premier was speaking in Bhisho on Thursday during the handover of 129 new vehicles to the Health Department.
The new fleet categories include ambulances, patient transport vehicles and response vehicles and were procured to replace and also to address current backlogs.
Premier Mabuyane said the new fleet will make a positive dent with respect to the “challenges on the ground.”
Eastern Cape Health MEC, Sindiswa Gomba, also welcomed the arrival of the new vehicles saying they would be distributed across the province, including the rural areas.
She also said the Province would be receiving a further 179 vehicles to augment the current fleet.
The emergency vehicles were procured by the provincial government’s fleet management entity on behalf of the provincial Department of Health.
