Work starts soon on new PE police station

Police Minister, Bheki Cele, said work will soon begin on clearing a site in Booysens Park in Port Elizabeth where a new police station will be built.

He made the comment while was addressing residents at the Booysens Park community centre on Thursday, during another visit to Nelson Mandela Bay to address community concerns about crime and gang violence.

Minister Cele began his day with a lengthy briefing with police management before proceeding on his visits to several areas across the Metro.

"As from Monday we are clearing the site where the police station will be built," Cele told a cheering crowd at the community centre.

Eastern Cape police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Liziwe Ntshinga, said it would take six weeks for the project to be completed before Minister Cele returns for the official opening sometime in October.

"We have already advertised the posts for that police station," she said.
