Eastern Cape Education MEC Mandla Makupula has issued a warning to school principals about a computer insurance scam that has hit some schools.
He said in a statement that schools in two education districts in Butterworth and Queenstown have been duped by a conman.
Makupula says the scamster claims to be distributing a consignment of 25 computers per school, which he says is a donation by the Office of the Eastern Cape Premier.
However, the scam is that these can only be delivered if the schools deposits a lump sum of money into a bank account, allegedly for insurance purposes.
MEC Makupula says the Eastern Cape Education Department wants to warn principals not to fall for the scam and to report any incidents.
